An alliance of NYC bars, restaurants, cafes & venues working together to advocate for success and survive the Covid Crisis
Millions of jobs in New York are part of the food & entertainment industry. Those jobs will be gone forever if we don't work together. As a group of NYC small business owners & leaders from restaurants, bars, clubs, and live music venues, we believe that focusing on policies together will help us all survive the realities of our COVID-19 crisis.
In 2010 we created an alliance of NYC bars, restaurants, venues and cafes working to navigate the needs of our industry & advocate for better policies. Our network of local owners & operators help each other with the day- to-day issues of running their business. Our group also brings the industry together for advocacy and meaningful local charitable giving. Together, we have gained representation on local community boards and convened with city agencies and elected officials whose decisions impact our businesses. We appointed the NYC Nightlife Advisory Board and co-founded the OutSmart campaign to improve safety awareness for our guests. We have also organized panels on topics such as the no-gratuity movement, plastic bag bans better ecological waste management, best practices for sustainable food operations, and alternatives to high credit-card fee processors.
BABAR has donated over $500,000 to local nonprofits that are working on building a community cultural center, improving open spaces & the environment, supporting affordable housing, and feeding our food-insecure neighbors. These organizations include
The Firehouse–North Brooklyn Community Center
(organizer of the Taste Williamsburg Greenpoint festival)
North Brooklyn Angels and their mobile soup kitchen, and Churches United for Fair Housing.
